How Much Cake Do I Actually Need?
Share
One of the most common questions we get is: "How much cake do I need?" Here's a simple guide to help you figure it out.
The 75-80% Rule
Not every guest will eat cake. A safe estimate is to plan for about 75-80% of your guest count. So if you're expecting 50 people, plan for around 40 servings.
Serving Size Guide

Round Cakes:
- 6-inch: 8-10 servings
- 8-inch: 16-20 servings
- 10-inch: 28-32 servings
- 12-inch: 40-45 servings

Square Cakes:
- 6-inch: 12-15 servings
- 8-inch: 20-24 servings
- 10-inch: 35-40 servings
Sheet Cakes:
- Quarter sheet: 12-15 servings
- Half sheet: 40-50 servings
- Full sheet: 80-100 servings
Tips for Sizing
If cake is the only dessert, size up. If you're serving other sweets, you can size down. When in doubt, it's better to have a little extra than not enough.
